Additional analytical techniques and laboratory services

The Faculty Center for Nanostructure Research offers laboratory room 3339 to staff and students of the Faculties of Chemistry and Physics.

The laboratory is currently equipped as follows:

• Two fume hoods, one of which is currently being used by the Quantum Optics Group.
• One gas cylinder cabinet for a maximum of two 50-liter cylinders, which users must provide themselves for the duration of their experiments. Permanent storage of gas cylinders for other groups is not permitted.
• Three chemical storage cabinets – If you are interested in storing chemicals with us, please contact us, as capacity is limited.
• Diener ATTO Plasmacleaner
• Laurell WS-650-23 Spincoater
• Hot plate
• Ultrasonic bath

To be authorised to use the chemistry lab room 3339, you must pass the following tests: 

• General Safety Guidelines for Faculty Members
• Laboratory Safety 

For documentation purposes, and to ensure that we know you are authorised to work here, you must also ask your group spokesperson to create a ticket in the servicedesk (please select Additional techniques and services as device).
The responsibility for all activities carried out in the laboratory lies with the respective group spokesperson.

A low-pressure plasma cleaner is a versatile instrument for cleaning or modifying surfaces. 

This device can be used independently by all persons authorised to work in chemistry lab room 3339. Use by external personnel is not permitted.

To be authorised to use this device, you must pass the following tests: 

• General Safety Guidelines for Faculty Members
• Laboratory Safety 

For documentation purposes, and to ensure that we know you are authorised to use this device, you must also ask your group spokesperson to create a ticket in the servicedesk (please select Additional techniques and services as device).

The Metallography department, headed by Martina Hofmann, offers the following services to staff and students of the Physics and Chemistry faculties:

• Hot mounting of samples that can withstand short-term exposure to 180°C without damage. A Struers CitoPress-1 is available for this purpose. When using a conductive mounting material, samples mounted in this way are particularly suitable for electron microscopy.
• Cold mounting of sensitive samples with the option of using conductive mounting material.
• Grinding and polishing of samples using a semi-automated system (Struers RotoPol-25).
